Here you find Insider Tips, which will create your stay on the Greek island of Kos affordable and multifaceted
1 Beautiful Blue
No matter where you look, somehow everything seems to be beautiful light blue: the sky, the sea, the Greek Flag, even the wooden benches that you will see alongside the streets.
2 Fresh from the sea – Tavern Feeling
Fish lovers and connoisseurs of rustic Greek plain fair are in the right place in Kos.
Recommendable is the Limionas Restaurant in Kefalos which is affordable and run by a local family.
What is that tavern feeling? You notice that you are in a Greek Tavern, because you are not only surrounded with guests but as well with the local fishermen who bring the fresh fish every day.
And because of the obligatory paper table cloth containing an island map, which waits to be covered with olive oil and Meze (Greek starters)
3 Cold Coffee
Each time of the day is a right time for a Frappe (Greek Ice Coffee). You see people with Frappe in the morning or noon, afternoon, evening and sometimes at night
When you are travelling through Kos, why not stop in one of the many little chapels on the way? The keys are normally in the door. Inside you are greeted by the smell of incense, Saints and candles. A calming experience.
5 Greek Wine
Greece is not only known for its Ouzo but also for the wine. On Kos you will find two wine producers. A quality wine with enchanting view you enjoy in the Triantafyllopoulos Vineyards.
Even more interesting when talking to Christos Papagiannis, who has built this vineyard a few year ago.
6 The Myth
Or in our case Mythos. Even the beer sound like an Ancienct Greek Legendary Figure.
7 Cats, the little Sweethearts of the Island Visitors
In case you wish to do something good for the animals of the island, please offer to accompany a dog or a cat to your home country. The bigger resorts like the PURAVIDA Resort Blue Lagoon Village or the organization Animal Rescue Kos can help with further information.
8 Old Structures
What would be Greece without old stones and structures? Kos is home of the first hospital in the world they say, founded following the vision of the famous Hippocrates. Therefore it is kind of obligatory to visit the Asklepion (entrance 4 Euro per person as of 2014) . Just bring a bit of fantasy.
9 Confess Colour
Kos and Greece in general, love using bright colors and this makes happy. If you like colors, do not miss the mountain village Zia and try the typical homemade lemonade. Refreshing.
10 The neighbour speaks Turkish
You reach Bodrum by Fast Ferry already in 20 minutes (in 45 minutes by regular boat). Bodrum is called the St. Tropez of Turkey. If this is really the case, you can read in my article here
11 Santorini, the Beautiful
Staying on Kos also makes it possible to visit the beauty of the Greek Islands, Santorini. In 5 hours time by ferry, you will arrive on Santorini.
WHAT MIGHT DISTURB YOU:
The Service in a pure Greek Bar means that the waiters might pay only attention to Greeks and not seldom you get ignored being a Non-Greek for quite a while.
WHAT YOU MIGHT LIKE:
Even if you just drink a single Coca Cola, nobody will be disturbed by you staying in the bar for hours, checking your e-mails from the last weeks or just dosing a bit.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KEEP IN MIND:
Scorpions like stones, remember steady shoes, when planning to clamber up stones.
DO NOT MISS:
To order Greek Meze (starters) with friends and family until the table burst (try absolutely Cheese Saganaki, Feta from the Oven, Aubergines, Giant Beans in Tomato Sauce, Pita Bread with homemade Tzatziki, Chickpea Balls…just yummy)
